Washing tips for fabric Menstrual Collection products: underwear and menstrual pads

First of all, we would like to welcome all the women who have started to follow us now and thank each one of you, who have been with us for a longer time and chose us as your preferred brand for your Menstrual Collection products, sustainable and reusable! Together we will make a difference, in the care of our intimate menstrual health and in the well-being of our Planet!

Our article this week addresses some doubts that have arisen regarding the correct washing of our external menstrual collection products: underpants and pads.

At Flow, we want all our products to have their assigned longevity, always with the right conditions to ensure healthy intimate hygiene.

Attention: all products are easy to wash, however, some tips that we are going to suggest will depend on your mood and patience. ⠀⠀⠀

Tip #when I don't want to bother too much

1. After using the reusable pads/menstrual underpants, you can keep them in a bag inside your bathroom - you can use a mesh bag, for example, or a waterproof bag - if you use the latter, I recommend leaving the bag open, airing it out (don't worry, you won't feel unpleasant smells);
2. At the end of your menstrual cycle put them in your washing machine along with the rest of your clothes, according to the colors - washing at 40º is enough;
3. At the end, let it dry in the sun - the sun helps whiten it - pay attention to dark colours, you already know that they lighten a little;
4. In this way, it is very likely that your garments will retain some stains, but don't worry, if your washing machine has done its job, they are clean and ready to use for your next period.

Tip #1 sustainable and necessary in any option I choose

1. After using your reusable pads/underpants and, whether you are at home or away from home, it is important that you first rinse them in cold water until most of the blood comes out;
2. Remember to use the water, this water is very rich in nutrients, you can use it and pour it on your plants;
3. To effectively remove stains, use the our soap - if the stain has been around for some time, rub the soap and let it work for a few minutes and then rinse;
4. If you have clothes to wash, you can add the pads/underwear to the washing machine;
5. If you don't have clothes to wash right away, I advise you to put the pieces to dry before placing them next to the dirty clothes - you can put them in the sun or hang them on the shower curtain bar, for example; ⠀⠀
6. After washing in the machine put them to dry in the sun.

Tip #stay in the sauce, I'll deal with it later

1. Yes, soaking can be an option, but be careful: rub your pads/underpants in cold water to remove most of the blood, then rub with soap;
2. After the previous step, you can let it soak for a few hours in that water or even overnight (no more!)
3. In the morning, you should discard the water and put the pieces in the washing machine with the rest of the clothes;
4. You already know, if you don't have clothes to wash, put them to dry first and only after they dry can you put them in the laundry basket, waiting for the next wash.

Tip #how to keep the pieces, without “clear” stains

1. It's a technique that has a great result, even if you do it just once, you'll see improvements, if you want to "whiten" your reusable menstrual pads/panties as much as possible, you can try it 2 or 3 times; It helps to make a deeper disinfection.
2. This process must be done with clean/washed parts
3. The magic product is called: sodium perborate or active oxygen - powdered sodium perborate is an oxygen-based stain remover that also helps to disinfect clothes; (it is more effective above 50º); it is a less aggressive product for the environment and your clothes and is safe to use on colored clothes
4. How to use: A) Preheat hot water in a kettle and place 1 tablespoon of powdered percale in a bowl; B) after boiling the water, you can let it cool down a bit and pour some hot water into the basin where you put the powdered percaborate. !!CAREFUL!! vapors will be released and small balls/foam will form - this is the product going into action; C) wait for it to stop "boiling" and pour some more hot water (up to half the basin); D) Add cold water until the basin is full or the basin is warm. AND) Soak your menstrual pieces in this water overnight, or a few hours. F) In the morning you should rinse them well in clean water or put them in the washing machine with other clothes. G) Place to dry in the sun.

Note: there are stains that may not come out so well, but the important thing is to know that your menstrual pieces are well washed.
